Ij Scan Utility for Windows/Mac

Ij Scan Utility for Windows/Mac is a software that can be run on both the Windows and Mac Operating system. It is a multifunctional application as it allows you to scan both the documents and photos. Through this utility software, you can personalize the scan settings such as the scan size resolution, data format, color mode, etc. It also includes an Auto Scan feature that automatically detects whether a document or photo is placed on the scanner glass and all the scan settings will get accordingly selected. This guide will assist you on how to install the utility software, and access it’s main interface to perform scanning.

Install Ij Scan Utility Software

There are two ways to get the Scan Utility software on your system. If you have a software CD, you can simply insert the CD to install it. But if your service provider does not provide you the CD with the purchase of the Canon printer or scanner, there is another way also. You can set up the software by launching the canon support page.

Via the Website

  1. Open a suitable web browser and input usa.canon.com/support in the address bar. This is the URL of the Canon support page.
  2. Now, you will be asked to provide your printer or scanner model. If you do not remember the model name, you can confirm it by checking the label given at the backside of the device.
  3. When you start typing the name, you will get to see your printer model in the list shown. Select it.
  4. To step forward, click on the Drivers & Downloads tab. The Ij Scan Utility software comes in-built with the MP drivers package.
  5. Now, view the selected operating system in the segment of “Drivers & Downloads”. If you are installing the software on Windows, select the correct Windows version. Otherwise select Mac.
  6. Click Select and then move ahead by clicking on the Download tab. This will commence downloading the setup file.
  7. To install the software, you are required to double-click the file and that will bring up the main screen of the program.
  8. Now, you have to make a connection between your computer and the printer or scanner, then select the MP drivers checkbox and the installation will begin.

Through CD

Insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive that is supplied to you by your service provider. A setup dialog box will be seen on your computer screen. Click Setup and then the main program window will be displayed. Acquire a USB cable, and attach it with both the devices to establish a connection. You can also develop a wireless connection if your printer supports it. When the software list appears, ensure that you have tick marked the MP drivers checkbox as this includes the Canon IJ Scan Utility software. With your consent, click Yes, when the license agreement window pops-up. By doing so, the installation will start. When it gets over, click Finish.

Launch the Main Configuration Page of Canon Ij Scan Utility

WINDOWS

  • Click on the Start Menu. Alternatively, you can press the Windows key on your keyboard.
  • Type Canon Utilities in the search bar and the same folder will be shown to you.
  • Click on the down-arrow key positioned beside the “Canon Utilities” folder.
  • You will come to see all the utility softwares that is already installed with the driver package.
  • Select Ij Scan Utility and the main window will pop-up that comprises various options i.e Auto Scan, Document, Photo, OCR, Email, etc.

MAC

  • In the very first place, click Go which is placed on the top of the desktop screen.
  • A list with all the possible options will come into view.
  • Select the Applications folder and all the installed apps will be presented on your screen.
  • Lookup for the “Canon Utilities” folder in the displayed list. Once you have found the folder, select it.
  • Thereafter, select Ij Scan Utility, and to proceed, you have to select Canon Scan Utility Lite. This way you can easily launch the main interface of the software.

How to scan the larger images using the Stitch function?

Ij Scan Utility has a Stitch function that enables you to scan images that are bigger than the platen. Also, it enables you to merge both the left and right halves of the image and form it into a single frame. To do so, take a look at the below-given steps:

  1. Launch Ij Scan Utility and click on the settings tab. Set the resolution, and item type settings as per your preference. Then, click OK.
  2. Now, select the Stitch option and the Image Stitch window will come into view.
  3. Following this, you have to select the output size based on the paper size you will place on the glass.
  4. To proceed, place your cursor in the Scan Direction field and select it as “Scan From Left”. Now, place the item on the platen facing downwards.
  5. Then, select Start Scanning Image 1. This will scan the one half of the image that you have placed on the left corner of the glass.
  6. Thereafter, place the other side of the image on the left corner of the glass and click Start Scanning Image 2.
  7. Both the sides of the image are now scanned and will be presented on your computer screen. Now, it’s time to merge both the halves of the images.
  8. For that, use the toolbars given at the top to rotate the images, zoom in/out and to move the images for adjusting their positions.
  9. When the image is combined, click Save.
